Hope Childrens Fund Gala at East Wind Long Island

Hope Children’s Fund Gala at East Wind Supports Education for Children in Kenya

The Hope Children’s Fund held its 8th Annual Passion for Education Gala on March 14, 2026 at the Inn and Spa at East Wind in Wading River.

The event supports the Jerusha Mwiraria Hope Children’s Home in Meru, Kenya, an organization that provides food, shelter, medical care, and education for children who were previously living on the streets or affected by HIV and AIDS.

The purpose of the gala is specific.

Funds raised go directly toward education and basic needs for the children. Each contribution helps cover school fees, food, clothing, and medical care, with a focus on moving children through primary, secondary, and postsecondary education.

The structure behind the organization is also clear.

Hope Children’s Fund operates as a volunteer-driven nonprofit, with resources directed to the children and staff in Kenya who manage daily operations at the home.

This year’s event followed a recent mission trip to Kenya.

Members of the organization and the Rocky Point Rotary Club traveled to Meru for the first time since the pandemic to work directly at the children’s home, reconnect with the children, and assess current needs on the ground.

That connection between Long Island and Kenya remains central.

The orphanage began with a goal of supporting 18 children and has grown to serve more than 90, with many graduates going on to earn degrees and enter professional fields.

The gala reflects that progression.

It is not a general fundraiser. It is tied directly to measurable outcomes tied to education, stability, and long-term independence for the children supported by the program.

The takeaway is straightforward.

Local support continues to fund a defined system that moves children from instability into education and, over time, into self-sufficiency.
