More Than a Golf Outing: Supporting Hunger Relief and the Andrew McMorris Foundation
Rocky Point Rotary's annual golf outing on June 16 generated enough funding to provide 4,684 meals through hunger-relief efforts and raised $4,151 for the Andrew McMorris Foundation. Held at St. George's Golf and Country Club, the event brought together golfers, sponsors, and guests for a day that connected recreation with two causes that continue to resonate across Long Island.
One beneficiary addressed an immediate need. The meals funded through the outing will help people facing hunger. The other beneficiary grew from a tragedy that touched an entire community.
In September 2018, Andrew McMorris was hiking with his Boy Scout troop when a drunk driver struck the group. Andrew later died from his injuries. The foundation established in his memory seeks to create positive opportunities for young people while carrying forward the values that defined his life.
Andrew's parents attended the evening dinner, giving participants an opportunity to meet the family behind one of the organizations supported through the fundraiser. Their presence served as a reminder that charitable organizations often begin with deeply personal stories and a determination to create something positive from loss.

The outing attracted strong support from sponsors, participants, and community members. While golfers enjoyed ideal weather and a memorable day on the course, the significance of the event extended beyond the fairways. The fundraising effort had been building for months through sponsorships, registrations, and donations, all directed toward causes that would continue long after the event concluded.
The connection between the two beneficiaries may not appear obvious at first. One addresses hunger. The other invests in young people through a foundation created in memory of a son, friend, and Scout. Yet both reflect a commitment to helping others and strengthening the community in meaningful ways.
When the final putts were made and dinner came to an end, the most important results of the outing were already clear. Thousands of meals had been funded, and additional resources had been directed to the Andrew McMorris Foundation. Both will continue reaching people long after June 16 becomes another date on the calendar.
