Some days feel bigger than others. On May 17th, under a sky full of promise, Rocky Point Rotarians—and a few of their spouses, children, and longtime friends—pitched more than just a tent.
Back at Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck for this year’s Epic Day of Service, our club joined forces with camp staff and fellow Rotarians from the Moriches Rotary (who run the camp year-round) to raise a new outdoor dining tent. It wasn’t just canvas and poles—it was a gift of shade, shelter, and summer meals for the children who will soon fill these grounds with laughter and life.
The work was physical. But the spirit was light. Jokes flew. Stakes were hammered. Ropes were tightened. And little by little, the frame took shape.
With the tent standing tall, the crew gathered for a classic Rotary lunch—burgers and hot dogs, fresh off the grill. Plates in hand, people took a moment to sit, smile, and soak it all in.
Then came the final act of the day: the Peace Pole dedication. A local pastor and his family led a heartfelt ceremony, offering a prayer for peace—not just for this place, but for every child who finds comfort and joy here. As the pastor spoke, raindrops began to fall—soft at first, then steadier—like a benediction from the skies.
There are service projects that check a box. And then there are days like this—where hearts, hands, and hope all meet in the same place.
That’s the Rotary way.
